In Issue 144: Guy Anderson’s Story of Survival

14 November, 2012

When Guy Anderson went missing during the Sun Valley Paragliding World Cup in August 2012 the hearts of pilots around the world sank.

With a failed tracking system, and no one knowing where he was, the job of finding him was like the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Alone and injured on a hillside 20km from anywhere Guy spent more than 48 hours out in the wilderness before help finally arrived.

During that time he managed to start self rescue, walking step by painful step down the valley towards civilisation.

When he was found, alive, pilots everywhere rejoiced.

Now, two months later, Guy has written his story of survival down for Cross Country magazine. Self-effacing as ever when he submitted his remarkable tale he told us it probably wasn’t up to much.

Of course, the opposite was true. A difficult story to tell has been brilliantly told.

The video above is from Guy’s phone. As he hiked, three bone-crunching steps at a time, he took mini movies on his phone. This one is of the moment after a helicopter had flown over him, apparently missing him.

Read Guy’s story of survival, out now in issue 144 of Cross Country Magazine.
