Supair have unveiled the Eona 4, their EN-A school glider and the first design from the brand to sport winglets.
The winglets are there to aid spiral stability, designer Pierre-Yves Alloix said. While they don’t affect the performance of the wing per se, they improve the spiral stability of this low aspect-ratio wing, without them having to make changes which would reduce its performance.
The reworked interior of the Eona 4 includes wider diagonals to provide more homogeneous tension, and a new reinforcing strip between the B and C line rows. Supair say this effectively acts as an additional row of lines, providing better cohesion in turbulent air. It also allows the brake travel to be longer.
The new arc is a flatter shape, which Supair say makes the turn handling more progressive and more intuitive for beginners. The “baby” shark nose is supported by a single rod instead of the more traditional two rods. The rods can be replaced if damaged.
The Eona 4 is made from robust materials so it will withstand the rigours of school use, but it is slightly lighter than the predecessor thanks to its weight-optimised internal structure.
It is available in five sizes and three colours.
