Ukrainian manufacturer Sky-Country’s new EN B Discovery 4 is a paraglider aimed at pilots who have 20+ hours post-school.
The company have opted not to reduce the number of risers (it has four) or to use plastic rods in the leading edge, as they say features can reduce the wing’s ability to recover from collapses, which is not a desirable feature in a post-school wing.
They have made performance gains elsewhere though. For instance, it has 55m less total line consumption (in the 27 size) than the Discovery 3, its predecessor, and thinner, 0.95mm lines on the upper cascades, reducing drag and improving performance.
It also has a slightly higher aspect ratio, and, the company say, a much better glide angle than the Discovery 3. Shorter lines also give it more precise handling, and shorter risers make B-stalling and Big-Ears easier to perform.
The top surface is now made from Skytex fabric which has reduced the weight of the wing and means it launches more easily, Sky-Country say, particularly for paramotoring.
Sizes 27 and 29 are already certified EN B, and the glider can be ordered now, with special paramotor risers available with trimmers for paramotorists. Eventually there will also be two smaller and one larger size.
