Gin release Safari 3 tandem harnesses

11 July, 2024, by Jack Sheard

Gin have announced the release of the Safari pilot 3 and Safari passenger 3 kits which aim to offer the lowest weight and packing volume possible while resisting the wear and tear of professional tandem work.

Pilot

The Safari pilot 3 is a tandem, split-leg harness designed to be durable enough to withstand use by professional tandem pilots. Gin said one aim was to ensure the lowest weight and packing volume possible.

Gin also wanted to deliver a comfortable pilot position that could be maintained without compromising control. Gin said the split-leg design “aids stability” and makes manoeuvring on the ground during launching and landing easier.

The harness uses Gin’s 210D Rosetta fabric which Gin said is “well proven” in providing long lifetime of heavy use while naturally resisting dust and dirt.

Its Edelrid triple lock buckles are “simple to open and close” but “impossible” to open accidentally. The back protector has been changed to a 22cm Aerobean protector which Gin said offers the best protection for the lowest weight.

There are storage pockets to cater for both pilot and passenger, as well as a detachable pocket for a selfie stick and/or action camera.

The harness weighs 2.8kg and can accommodate pilots between 170-190cm tall.

Passenger

The Safari Pilot 3 has been designed in conjunction with the Safari Passenger 3.

The Passenger 3 is described as “easy to use, comfortable, compact and light” – weighing 2.15kg and accommodating passengers between 150-190cm tall.

By placing the centre of gravity of the harness behind the hips, Gin said there is no tendency for the passenger to fall forwards during landings. A reinforced skid guard on the bottom of the airbag offers protection against wear and tear and can be replaced if damaged.

There is a large storage pocket in the back to store passengers’ personal belongings as well as a zipped, mesh pocket on top which can be accessed by the pilot in flight.

Gin said on their website, these harnesses “aim to make work as easy as possible for professional tandem pilots”.
