Gin release Calypso 2: lightweight EN-B

31 May, 2024

Gin have released a new version of the Calypso, their lightweight EN-B paraglider for “leisure and progressing pilots who like to travel, hike and fly XC”.

Available in five sizes from XXS (21m² flat for 55-75kg all up; to L (28.7m² flat for 95-115-120kg all up), the smallest size weighs 3.22kg with Dyneema risers, or 3.4kg with standard.

Gin say they worked a lot on the internal construction of the Calypso 2. It sports a new, evolved Rigifoil, comprising a small half rib with a nitinol rod and a short tensioning string between the top and bottom cells in the leading edge.

Like the original patented Rigifoil system, Gin say, this helps maintain the precise shape of the leading edge, which benefits inflation, stability, handling and performance.

Gin say the Calypso 2 is one of the easiest gliders in their range to launch, and has exceptional passive safety. It offers “precise and progressive brake pressure and transmits coherent yet controlled feedback through the brakes and risers”.

It is made from a mix of 27g/m², 32g/m² and 34g/m² Porcher cloths and has sheathed lines for ease of use and durability. Thanks to the nitinol rods, Gin say the Calypso 2 is easy to pack small, and with a lightweight reversible harness, all-in your kit will “easily” be under 10kg.
