Czech manufacturer Axis have released a new two-line sports class wing, the Vega 6, aimed at cross country and competition pilots. They say it combines top performance with precise handling and good passive safety.
“When we developed our new sport class glider we had a clear goal – to construct the best possible paraglider for pilots who rightly demand more and more safety,” say Axis. “The Vega 6 is such a glider.”
The Vega 6 is designed as a pure two-liner in the EN C class (although at the time of press, certification was still on-going).
The glider features a sharknose profile while the shape of the top of the leading edge has been optimised using 3D modelling to give a cleaner leading edge for better glide and speed. In addition, the use of mini-ribs on the trailing edge provides a linear flow of the outgoing airflow – reducing secondary turbulence, which in turn reduces the overall drag of the canopy, contributing to a higher glide ratio. This is already a standard feature for Axis gliders.
The glider has an aspect ratio of 6.3 and 61 cells, which is typical of paragliders of this class. “This solution, together with the linear distribution of the lines along the span, has allowed us to greatly reduce the consumption of lines, which also contributes significantly to a relatively high maximum speed,” say Axis.
Like all of its wings the Vega 6 is manufactured in the Czech Republic in their own factory, using materials made in Europe.
The Vega is aimed at current XC pilots who want to be able to use 100% of the potential of their wing. “It was designed to give a very comforting feedback and thus allowing you to go further, feeling better,” say Axis.
The Vega 6 is produced in six colour combinations but can be customised and comes in eight sizes for weights of 55kg to 160kg.
