Air Design have announced their new Rise 2 has been certified EN B in the M size.
They claim a 0.8 improvement in glide over the original Rise for the new glider, helped by using 14% less line an optimised profile.
Explaining that the Rise 2 “doesn’t have much left” in common with the original Rise, the company say:
The Rise 2 is a performance EN B glider aimed at cross country pilots and designed with the optimum characteristics of an XC wing in mind.
Performance, safety and comfort in flight in all conditions were the major design considerations. The ‘trademark’ of AirDesign comfort in flight gives pilots a real confidence boost which helps them achieve their goals.
The Rise 2 doesn’t have much left in common with its predecessor. Airfoil, cell- and line-system, inlet and trailing-edge have a completely new design.
In addition, many design features were implemented from higher-classified gliders like the Volt and the Pure.

They add:
The optimized Shark-Nose improves the handling and stalling behaviour of the wing, as well as the pressure and stability of the canopy in accelerated flight.
The Razor Edge technology is a special sail-shape at the trailing edge which optimizes profile shape and reduces drag.
Thanks to a new line layout, the total amount of lines could be reduced by 14%, which also reduces drag.
All these features have produced a performance gain of 0.8 glide ratio over the complete speed range!
AirDesign also focused their attention on the practical gliding behaviour. The Rise 2 glides perfectly in headwind conditions which is one of its greatest strengths.
