FlyWithCE Flight Recorder and Log Book

13 May, 2009

FlyWithCE have released a compact and easy to use flight recorder which they say is the smallest on the market. (It weighs under 50g and has dimensions 70 X 37 X 24 mm, so will easily slip into a pocket). The unit has a built in internal antenna, and enough memory to record 100 hours with 1s recording rate interval (recording rate is adjustable). The device is powered either by two AAA batteries, or an external power supply. With 1000 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries you can to record up to 8 hour long flights. The FlyWithCE Logbook program enables you to download flights, store information about them, view them in Google Earth or an IGC analysis program such as SeeYou, Strepla, WinPilot 3D.

The device is not IGC certified and does not have a pressure sensor, so would not be useable for ratifying records or in competitions, but as a recreational pilot its low cost, size and autonomous operation could make it a very attractive proposition.
