The British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association now offer Worldwide insurance to non-UK resident members living in a European-Union country and holding a BHPA-issued FAI sporting license.
The change was announced on the BHPA’s January / February 2012 Club Bulletin, and gives £2 million cover for solo flying only, including competitions.
In the past, a UK resident BHPA member has been insured while flying abroad, excluding US and Canada, for up to 120 days but members who were resident outside the UK were only covered while flying in the UK.
Now pilots are insured Worldwide (with the two exclusions mentioned above) year-round.
The changes apply when pilots renew their BHPA membership and FAI licence this year. There is an additional cost of £25 for the cover, but the BHPA say that they hope that this additional charge will eventually disappear.
