The Mexican Open hang gliding championships were held from 16 – 24 April 2010 at the sites of San Marcos and Tapalpa, Mexico.
Thirty pilots took part in the FAI cat. II event, ten of them non-Mexicans. There were six good days, with 15 m/s thermals and 4,500 m cloudbases, the longest task being a 157 km triangle which saw ten pilots in goal. Winner Rodrigo de Obeso of the Mexican free flight association described San Marcos as, “A beautiful mountain take-off with a big dry lake in front and a spectacular view to ‘the volcano of fire’ with its snowed peak at 4,200 m”. He said, “Every day we flew with amazing vultures and golden eagles”.
Rodrigo de Obeso won ahead of Rodrigo Russek and Erick Salgado, all flying Moyes Litespeed RS 4s.
