Chrigel Maurer and Peter Von Känel set off on their mission to climb all 4,000m+ peaks in the Alps on 8 June. They bagged their first peak – the Aletschhorn (4194m) – on 11 June 2024.
The pair intend to climb all 82 peaks over 4,000m in the Alps in no more than 72 days, travelling on foot, skis or by paraglider only, and starting and finishing in Frutigen, Switzerland. There will be no support vehicle and they will not use cars, cable cars or other means of transport.
When they reach each summit they will take a selfie as proof. After reaching the Aletschorn on the morning of 11 June they flew from the summit to the glacier below, before hiking to the Mönchsjochhütte, the highest mountain hut in the Swiss Alps. On 12 June they ticked off the Mönch (4,110m), Gross Fiescherhorn (4,049m) and Hinter Fiescherhorn (4,025m).
Their 72 days are up on 19 August 2024. Follow their progress at xpeaks.ch.
