Michaela Brandstätter of Austria has filed a claim with the FAI for the women’s World and European triangle distance record, with a 222.8km triangle from Grente Alm on 21 May 2016.
Michaela’s flight can be seen on XContest.org, above. She flew an EN-C AirDesign Volt 2 Superlight, and it would appear she launched before 9am for her 9-hours-and-20-minutes mission;
Renate Brümmer of Germany currently holds the current Women’s European record with a 118.3km triangle, although she is not recorded as holding the World record. The overall world record is held by Jacques Fournier (FR), for a 302.2km triangle in France on an Enzo 2 in July 2014.
Michaela’s record claims can be seen on the FAI’s website, claims 17851 (world) and 17852 (European).

More than 20 pilots flew big triangles from the site that day, with Isidor Fink (IT, Ozone LM6) scoring the longest overall, at 281km.
Germany’s Brigitte Kurbel (UP Trango XC3) flew a similar triangle to Michaela’s, that comes out on Leonardo as 10km longer but which does not fulfil the requirements of an FAI triangle, which must finish within 800m of the start point, so does not qualify for the record.
