Tragic Weekend for Paragliding

3 February, 2009

It is with the great sadness that we have to report the loss of two of paragliding’s most accomplished and respected brothers, Stefan Schmoker and Philippe Nodet.

On Friday 30 January, during a task in the paragliding world championships in Mexico, Swiss team pilot and world championship contender, Stefan Schmoker, suffered a cravat from which he was unable to recover and crashed into a gully. Sadly Stefan died from the injuries he sustained.

The following day the world-renowned adventure pilot Philippe Nodet died in a paragliding accident at his home site of St Hilaire in France.

Both men had made major contributions to our sport and their loss is a massive and heartbreaking blow to many. Our thoughts are with their friends and families at this difficult time.
