Sys’ky is a small, light GPS/vario and flight logger for paraglider pilots, developed by French company Syride.
It attaches to your paraglider’s risers where it can be easily seen, and records and analyses your flights, creating a detailed online logbook for you.
Flight data is extracted from the device in GPX and KML formats, so you can replay your flights on Google Earth. It will soon also be obtainable in IGC format to upload to online contests.

You can look at other pilots’ flights, searching by name, site etc, and you can see how your greatest flight distance, duration and altitude compare to others on that site that day.
The paraglider version of the unit is still very new and there are few users yet, but a surfer’s version has been around for some time and there is a video on the surf version’s website to show how it works.
You’ll be able to move around the interactive map of Europe on the ‘Flights’ page and look at the flights others have done from the various flying sites. If you want to have a peek now, have a look at St Hilaire du Touvet in France, where there are currently flights from ten pilots.
The unit is on sale for €279, a snip compared to most other GPS/vario units, though unless you are a real advocate of lightweight simplicity you probably won’t be able to dispense with a larger unit just yet, for extra in-flight information.
Syride have become partners with the St Hil’Airtour hike and fly race that starts in St Hilaire du Touvet on 17 June, just a couple of months away.
