SHV Celebrates 50 years

29 August, 2024, by Tarquin Cooper

The Swiss Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association celebrates its 50th anniversary this weekend with a three-day festival in Interlaken. The jubilee party is a celebration of all things free flight and includes aerial shows, vintage displays, lectures and workshops.

There’s also a museum display of early equipment with contemporary witness accounts from the early days. Several manufacturers will also have stands. The programme for Friday includes live music and DJs until the early hours.

“There are many attractions around paragliding and delta flying,” says a spokesperson. “The show programme above the rooftops of Interlaken showcases the diversity of the hang gliding and paragliding scene. Invited are certified pilots, not-yet-certified pilots or simply anyone who is interested in this fascinating sport.”

The festival runs from 9am on Friday 30th until 10pm on Sunday September 1st at Interlaken’s Hohematte park. Some camping spaces may still be available at the Des Alpes area, next to the venue.

Admission is CHF 25 (when booked in advance) which includes a meal and drink as well as access to the live concerts, lectures, workshops and museum. Tickets can also be purchased on arrival for CHF 30. However, the number of places per day is limited.
