A group of paraglider manufacturers have backed Serial Class competition with a serious amount of prize money.
Advance, Gradient, Nova, Skywalk, Swing and Germany’s DHV have put together a €9,000 prize pot for pilots flying certified Serial Class gliders in the German Paragliding Open in June.
The competition is offering an unprecedented top prize of €4,000 for the Serial Class winner at this year’s German Open. A further €5,000 prize money will be distributed to second and third spots, plus day winners and women.
The move is clearly aimed at re-balancing competition back towards certified gliders and away from the new breed of non-certified two-line racing paragliders.
Announcing the move of “mega money” into Serial Class competition, organisers said they expected the Serial Class prize pot would attract pilots from across Europe to the comp.
The prize pot is big by the standards of a paragliding competition, which more usually sees honour, glory and a free T-shirt as main prizes.
The comp is the most important in the German calendar and decides the national champions for the year. It takes place in Kossen, from 20-26 June – just a week before the Paragliding World Championships take place in Piedrahita, Spain.
Registration for the comp is open now.
