Paragliding festival Free Flight Tegelberg, Germany’s answer to the French Coupe Icare, celebrates its tenth successful year this weekend.
The three-day event starts Friday 2 October and features paragliding, hang gliding and paramotoring.
Like France’s St Hilaire, Free Flight Tegelberg is designed to bring the northern summer flying season to a close. Films, parties, and some 100 exhibitors (including Cross Country magazine) provide the backdrop to some spectacular flying. A three-minute cable-car ride takes pilots up to launch.
The 900 m Alpine flying site in southern Germany is famous as the home of the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle. Hang glider pilots have used the take off since 1973.
