Swiss company High Adventure have released the Beamer 2, a new version of their 1995 classic rogallo steerable reserve parachute.
The Beamer 2 has a 2-phase steering system. On opening, it is in the brakes-on position and acts like a classic round canopy, with no forward movement (in case it opens near to cliffs or other objects). But use the brakes and they release, the Beamer II becoming a manoeuvrable Rogallo with a good forward glide. Even with your main paraglider still flying, because of its forward motion the Rogallo doesn’t have the same tendency as a round reserve to swing or enter a dangerous downplane with the main chute. Use a quick-release system and it’s even better.
What’s more, the Beamer 2 packs down very small, weighs less than 2 kgs, opens extremely quickly (twice as quickly as most round canopies) and has a slow descent rate of 3.8 m/s with 130 kg (EN confirmed). It is 100 % made in Europe too.
The Beamer 2 is distributed by Nova or High Adventure, depending on your country.
