Used by Chrigel Maurer when he won the Red Bull X-Alps in 2009, the Lightness can now benefit cross country-oriented hike & fly pilots, travellers and bivouac-lovers everywhere.

It consists of two products: a lightweight, reclined pod harness, and a compact rucksack. Together they weigh less than three litres of water, including the pod, foam protection and instrument panel. This means that, even with a standard wing, with a lightweight helmet and reserve your total flying kit can still come in at under 10kg.

Advance can say that the Lightness offers top level comfort both in the air and on the ground. The lack of a seat board saves weight in the harness, and also means it moulds well to the pilot’s shape, and offers more direct feedback from the wing. The rucksack has been designed for long-distance comfort.

Advance warn though, that the Lightness is made for a very specialist market, and that there is a trade-off when using such specialist lightweight materials – it needs be treated with care, and does not have the same resistance to abrasion if misused as other Advance products.

Advance have made some videos to help you set up your Lightness harness correctly. They can be seen here.
