How to master flying at the dune

You know me I am a big advocate of groundhandling, and I never hide the fact that I think the general level of groundhandling in our sport is too low. One of the easiest, most fun ways to train ground handling is to go to some dunes and play! So here are my top 10 tips to enjoy your trip to the dune.

1. Take the right wing! Most people going to the dune just take the oldest, most destroyed wing they’ve got. And most of the time it’s even too big for them. What a mistake this is! You simply can’t train or get better without suitable equipment, so when going to the dune please take decent gear. And make sure it’s the right size! I see too many people flying wings which are either too big, or too difficult for them at the dune and it just does not make sense. I have sold countless Agility 14m2 to people I am sure then had the worse time of their life there. I told them so but they were still like, “Yeah, I take it anyway.”

2. The sand isn’t that soft. Most people go to the dune with a destroyed harness thinking the sand is soft. Well, the first three centimetres are soft… after that it’s hard so you have to be careful first, not to crash, but second also to take a harness with a good back protector.
