X-Pyr 2024: route announced

30 May, 2024

The route for the 2024 edition of the X-Pyr has been announced. It covers a distance of 592.5km from Hondarribia on the Atlantic coast, to Port de la Selva on the Mediterranean, via seven turnpoints.

These are the turnpoints this year:

  • Start: Hondarribia
  • TP1: Larun
  • TP2: Val d’Azun
  • TP3: Boí Taull
  • TP4: Monte Perdido
  • TP5: Pic des Trois Seigneurs
  • TP6: Vall de Núria
  • TP7: Santa Helena de Rodes
  • Goal: El Port de la Selva

Pilots will be taken from the north side of the Pyrenees to the south and back again. Organisers say the section to TP5 (Pic des Trois Seigneurs), north of Andorra, is probably the most complicated part of the route. Vall de Núria is in a hanging valley with no road access, so supporters will get a free ticket for the rack-and-pin railway, which is the only access by motorised transport.

Forty-eight teams are signed up, with Maxime Pinot, Pierre Rémy, Simon Oberraunder and Pál Takáts – all well-known sRed Bull X-Alps athletes – among the favourites to win in the absence of four-time winner Chrigel Maurer, who will not be there.

The race starts on Sunday 23 June.
