Simon Oberrauner wins X-Pyr 2024

28 June, 2024, by Cross Country staff

Simon Oberrauner won the X-Pyr 2024 on the afternoon of day 5, Thursday 27 June, having led for much of the race. He crossed the line at 3:52pm local time.

Germany’s Christian Schugg snuck in from the north, having chosen a different route to the others. His route made maximum use of the mountains and avoided much of the flatlands. Despite being longer, it enabled him to jump past Australia’s Shane Tighe and French pilot Pierre Rémy.

Christian landed on the road leading to the final turnpoint, and ran in to take second place. Shane won the on-foot battle with Pierre for the last podium place, finishing 19 minutes ahead of Pierre.

The first three athletes finished within just over an hour of each other, and in total seven athletes finished on day five. Another seven have pulled out due to injury, including Maxime Pinot who was struggling with a knee injury.

Twenty-six athletes remained on the course at the start of day six, the back markers having yet to tag turnpoint three. They have until 9pm on Saturday 29 June, when the timer stops.
