The list of competitors has changed slightly: Japan’s Masayuki Matsubara is to replace France’s Julien Serré, who has had to drop out due to injury following an accident in December. Matsubara joins compatriot Kaoru Ogisawa, who finished fifth in 2007, as Japan’s second athlete.
Suunto are one of the event’s sponsors, and will be providing personalised training programmes for four of the athletes: Aidan Toase (GB), Christian Amon (AT), Honza Rejmanek (US) and Michael Gebert (DE) will be guided by renowned physiologist, coach and Suunto consultant Eddie Fletcher.
The Red Bull X-Alps now has a Facebook page and Twitter feed for fans who can’t get enough. There’ll be updates from now right through to race start on 19 July, 2009 and constant twittering from their editorial team during the race.
