With the new Torck 2, Brazilian manufacturer Sol say they have made a glider with better thermalling ability than anything else in the EN D class.
The manufacturer believe that as “a pilot spends 50% of his flying time climbing in thermals”, it would make a big difference to cross country ability if the glider was particularly good at doing this.
Which is not to say that they have neglected the glide ability, in part by reducing the induced drag.
The Torck 2 is lighter than the original Torck, being constructed from 40g/m2 WTX40 cloth, but Sol say its longevity will be just as good. In fact, Sol are confident that they have found the optimal balance between weight, performance and longevity.
