“Timo’s passion and dedication to paragliding was unmatched"

14 June, 2024, by Cross Country

It is with great sadness that we report the news that Timo Leonetti has died, 14 June 2024, following a serious accident while competing in the French Nationals in the northern Alps.

Timo’s accident happened during a competition task on the afternoon of 13 June. He was flown to Annecy hospital, and had been in a critical condition.

Timo was a hugely talented and popular young French pilot. He won the worldwide XContest for the first time in 2022 aged 19, won it again in 2023, and was leading it in 2024. More importantly, he had many, many friends in our community. A member of the French paragliding team at the French Nationals told us that “the upset and pain is overwhelming.”

In a statement announcing Timo’s death on 14 June, the FFVL said, “we ask everyone to respect the privacy of Timo’s family. This tragic event also reminds us of the primordial importance of safety in the practise of paragliding.”

“Timo’s passion and dedication to paragliding was unmatched and he was respected and admire by his peers for his expertise and sportsmanship.”

All our thoughts are with Timo’s family and friends in this extremely difficult time.
