The new expedition stove from Swedish manufacturers Primus is a lightweight, multifuel affair called the OmniLite Ti, and it should be for sale in outdoor shops in Spring 2012.

It can run on “virtually everything” – from gas to petrol, kerosene, aviation fuel and even diesel, which makes it very versatile for travel in far-flung places where fuel availability may be limited.

The original OmniFuel stove was designed way back in 2001, and went on to win the ‘Gear of the Year’ award from German Outdoor magazine every year from 2002 till 2009.

The new 239g titanium, wide-legged version is super-stable, light and non-corrosive.

The designers have brought the nozzle closer to the flame spreader, which they say results in a strong flame and less heat loss at the sides.

The OmniLite Ti was designed to be used with pots (such as their Eta pots) which have a heat exchanger, and these hugely increase its efficiency which means you don’t have to carry as much fuel for the same amount of cooking time.

The Primus OmniLite Ti will be available in Spring 2012 for around €200.
