Chrigel Maurer has done it again, winning his fourth consecutive Red Bull X-Alps title. He stopped the clock at 8 days, 4 hours and 37 minutes when he arrived at Peille take-off above Monaco, on foot, at around 3pm on 13 July 2015.
Though Chrigel had lead the race from the start, it was very close-fought this time around, with Paul Guschlbauer and Sebastian Huber hot on his heels. In the end Chrigel pulled out a full 100km lead over his rivals, thanks to some clever decision making.
Marcus King went to meet him at Peille launch.
Second in at 2pm on 14 July was Sebastian Huber (GER3) – Advance’s only other pilot and a rookie. He wins the Mazda rookie trophy, and will no doubt have had the guys at Advance popping the champagne corks again, in celebration of having their pilots on both of the top podium spots.
Sebastian was followed in a couple of hours later by an exhausetd Paul Guschlbauer (AUT1), thankful to have made it onto the podium after all. Having been right up at the front throughout the rcae, it all started to look a bit doubtful for him in the last 24 hours, when Sebastian pulled away from him in front, and he got overtaken by the following group of Antoine Girard (FRA2), Gaspard Petiot (FRA4) and Aaron Durugati (ITA). He used his night pass to claw back third place
Antoine Girard made it to Peille just minutes before Gaspard Petiot, followed by Aaron Durogati. Ferdi Van Schelven (NED) is also in at the time of writing, and Gavin McClurg (USA2) is within stumbling distance. The athletes have until 12 noon on Friday 17 July to make it to Monaco, and it is looking as if a lot of them will do so, making it a record year for finishers.
