Dalibor Carbo and Juraj Kleja have finally released the full length DVD of their spectacular 280km vol bivouac through the Karakoram to K2 base camp.
It features what must surely rank as some of the wildest paragliding footage ever shot, as the pair cross some of the biggest terrain on the planet by paraglider at altitudes of up to 7,000m.
Dali and Juraj are two well known pilots from Czech and Slovakia who have pioneered flying in the Greater Ranges. Their monster vol biv through the Karakoram took place last year and saw them fly from Hunza to K2 basecamp in two days. “We flew 140km on the first day,” said Dali, “before being forced to land as a valley wind swatted us down.”
With only the very minimum of kit the pair bivvied above 4,000m before taking off the next day to fly 60km up the Baltoro Glacier to the mountain amphitheatre of Concordia – from where several of the world’s 8,000m peaks are within striking distance.
Here they flew above K2 basecamp before heading back down the valley to relative civilisation. During their flight they shot unique footage of K2 from angles not previously seen, and had the experience of a lifetime.
Adventure movies can be self-serving and tiresome at times – not so this one. If you are a pilot and are vaguely interested in the upper limits of where our craft can operate, then check this one out.
