Norwegian hang glider and pilot paraglider pilot Tormod Helgesen was the lucky reader who won a wing in this year’s prize draw.
He gets to choose the wing of his choice from the companies that supported the draw: Advance, Dudek, Gin, Little Cloud, Ozone and Paramania. Tormod has chosen a Swift 4 from Ozone.
Tormod’s name was picked out of our electronic hat using a random number generator. Entry was automatic for all our subscribers who had a valid subscription on 16 Jan 2015.
US pilot Damon Cokenias won a harness from Sup’Air, who also gave a day’s guided flying, won by fellow US pilot Eric Miller.
Another Norwegian pilot, Jon Magnus Sandvik, was the lucky winner of a new Element vario/GPS from Flytec.
Todd Roberts from the US will be packing his bags for a trip to Babu Adventure Camp in Nepal.
All in all 20 prizes were given to our readers around the globe. Congratulations to all our winners and thanks to all our subscribers for your support.
Meet the winner
My name is Tormod Helgesen.
I live in Oslo, Norway.
I am 50 years old.
I work as an aircraft mechanic, working for the Norwegian Air Force, maintaining and repairing F-16 Fighting Falcon, Sea King and Bell helicopters and stuff like that. I also make automated test stands including developing the software.
I have been flying hang gliders since 1993, paragliders for two years. It all started with model airplanes when I was 14 though.
For the first years of flying it was only for fun. In 2007 I started flying in competitions and found that it was even more fun so I stuck with that. Internationally I’ve competed in the 2012 Hang Gliding Europeans in Turkey and 2013 World Hang Gliding Championship in Australia, but the results were pretty bad. Next I’m going to the 2015 World Hang Gliding Championship in Valle de Bravo, Mexico hoping that I’ll do better. I try to attend the Canary Open, a fun comp, every year. I started flying paragliders because I wanted something easy to carry and set up for light days, and I want to be able to fly&camp in the Norwegian mountains during summer. I might try competing in paragliding if I can find the time.
I subscribe to Cross Country Magazine because it’s a good magazine and I don’t want to miss out on interesting articles by relying on borrowing or stealing the mag. Since I started flying paragliders I found the magazine full of useful information and good reads.
I’ve chosen the Ozone Swift 4. The lightweight design is for my fly&camp project, the B rating is for hassle-free take-off and flying, I bet it’s as good as my old C rated Delta anyway. I like Ozone, although I haven’t tried very much else.
