A vario / GPS app for iPhones and iPads, the iVariometer, has been reviewed on Youtube and given the thumbs-up.

The app, which can be bought from the iTunes store for $5.99, enables pilots to use their iPhone or iPad as a vario / GPS unit.

As well as a “sensitive” vario, you can download maps and airspace information so you can see where you are in three-dimensions and, the speed and direction you are heading in, and can avoid airspace infringements.

The Flight Player enables you to play back flights from your logbook, which also holds details of your wing etc.

Although Powerlord 69, the Youtube user behind the review, says it still has “a few little bugs”, the app basically seems to get very good feedback from the different sources we looked at on the web.

If you have an iPhone or iPad it could be worth a try if you are looking for such an all-in-one vario / GPS unit, and don’t need competition-specific features.
