Switzerland’s Andy Aebi has been crowned the 2008 Paragliding World Cup Champion after a final round in Castelo, Brazil from 27 September – 4 October.

The competition was won by fellow Advance teammate and countryman Stefan Schmoker, also aboard an Advance prototype wing.

Aebi finished the final event in fourth place behind Schmoker, Tomas Brauner and Urban Valic respectively, the position was enough to bring his total point count this season to 13,430, just 61 points ahead of France’s Jean-Marc Caron, who lay only ten points of Schmoker.

Germany’s Eva Wisnierska was the highest ranked female at the event and took the top spot ahead of France’s Elisa Houdry and Switzerland’s Anja Kroll.

Over the entire season though Kroll managed to hold off Wisnierska attempts at a second PWC title to be crowned 2008 Female Paragliding World Cup Champion. Japan’s Keiko Hiraki took the bronze.

A total of 237 pilots took part in the Paragliding World Cup Tour this year which flew 22 tasks in five countries: Castelo, Brazil; Sopot, Bulgaria; Castejon de Sos, Spain; Grindelwald, Switzerland and Poggio-Bustone, Italy.
