Tanguy feels the burn

France’s Tanguy Renaud-Goud set a new hike-and-fly world record for elevation gain over 24 hours in April. He hiked-and-flew 17,534m over 23 hours on 25-26 April 2024 in Samoëns, France, beating the previous record by more than 500m.

Tanguy hiked the 800m ascent to a take-off on Le Criou in the northern French Alps 22 times, flying down each time. A temporary permit allowed him to continue through the night.

He flew with a Niviuk Kode P (size 16), weighing 1.8kg, a Roamer 2 P harness (200g) and the Expe 30 backpack (480g). During the night he switched to the single-skin Skin 3 P (size 20, 2kg) and at dawn, as the wind picked up, he switched back to his Kode P.

Four days later, Tanguy reflected on his incredible world record.
