Polini’s latest paramotor engine is the compact, liquid-cooled, two-stroke Thor 80.
The Thor 80 weighs just over 11kg, and Polini say its power-to-weight ratio is “extraordinary”. It’s liquid cooled, and its small radiator, the carburettor and exhaust are all integrated into the engine housing to keep things neat and compact.
The nickel-silicon treated aluminium cylinder displaces 86cc for 17.2 hp at 1,0450RPM, and the piston is gravity die-cast in a light alloy with a high silicon content.
The fuel system has a Polini CP d.21 carburetor with manual bulb, and a fuel reservoir tank, which can be emptied to avoid leakage during transport. (Alternatively it can be ordered with a Walbro WG8 carburetor).
It has a dry-centrifugal clutch, with 3.58 gear reduction with helical teeth in oil bath. A flight computer to log hours and monitor temperature/RPM is available as an extra.
