Niviuk have revealed their new high-performance competition paragliding harness, the Drifter.

The team say, “Our mission was to create a highly aerodynamic harness which would enhance the performance of our wings … and we think with the Drifter we have achieved exactly that”.

The Drifter has a non-detachable, rapidly-inflating long rear section, which moves the point of break-off of the airflow away from the pilot, lessening its impact on the paraglider’s performance. The harness fully encloses the pilot except for his or her arms. Niviuk say this means the Drifter has possibly the lowest parasitic drag of any available today.

The seating position can be easily adjusted in flight, and the speed system has been designed to optimise both comfort and performance.

The harness has a 14cm mousse back protector, under-seat reserve system using zippers to close it, and is EN-1651 certified. It is on the FAI’s list of harnesses that are permitted in category 1 competitions.

It also has an inbuilt under-seat ballast container and a fully detachable flight deck.

The total weight of the Drifter with all accessories, rescue handle, karabiners and 14cm mouse protection is 8kg.

It is available in black / green and in three sizes, but is currently pre-series production. Pilots who are competing at the Worlds in Piedrahita in July will receive the harness first, and then it will be available to all pilots.
