Nova have released a lightweight version of their EN B paraglider, the Ion.
The Ion Light uses lighter (34 g/m2) cloth on both upper and lower surfaces and flexible rods in place of Mylar in the leading edge. It also has thinner risers than the Ion. All in all Nova have reduced the weight by about 1.5 kg (the middle size weighs 4.3 kg).
Nova say the Ion Light is not a mountain wing aimed at mountaineers, but rather is intended for regular use by pilots who are looking for a smaller, lighter wing than is standard, with good handling and flight characteristics and the security of EN B.
The Ion Light benefits from Nova’s 4 year materials guarantee as with their standard wings, although they recommend that if you put a lot of strain on your glider (eg if you ground-handle a lot) then the standard weight Ion might be a better choice.
