The World Hang Gliding Championships take place at the Tegelberg, Schwangau, Germany, from 8 – 22 May 2010.
There will be various classes of event: The 12th FAI Women’s World Class 1, 18th FAI World Class 2 (faired rigid wings) and 5th FAI World Class 5 (rigids) championships.
Over 100 top national and international pilots are expected to attend the 14-day event which will be flown over a mixture of mountains and flatland terrain, with tasks of over 200 km to be set if the weather allows.
Heather Mull is running the women’s event, and is appealing for all her old female hang gliding buddies to come along and support the event. She says, “You don’t need to fly the highest performing gliders either to take part. It’s hard enough at times to be a woman in hang gliding, so please support this competition to show the rest of the world that we are an important part of hang gliding”.
In order to raise funds to send a women’s team from the US, Linda Salamone is selling commemorative T-shirts. Men’s cost US$ 20, and women’s camisole-vest tops are US$ 25 : buy yours here
