Hang gliding to help Ecuador’s children

Monday 19 October, 2009

American hang glider pilots Jeff O’Brien and Ricker Goldsborough will be heading off to Ecuador for the Canoa Open hang gliding competition in a few days time (24 Oct – 2 November) but with additional goals outside those of the race: they have set up a non-proft organisation to raise funds to provide the millions of slum dwellers with basic necessities, such as food, medicines, nappies and medical attention.

The fund will be used to purchase goods locally where possible (though some items will be carried with them from the States) and distribute them to those in need, using already-established contacts with charitable agencies in the area.

Ricker’s video, above, explains what “is difficult to put into words”. The pair call on anyone who can offer a donation, and a Paypal payment can be made at rgg1@charter.net.

They plan to make such a contribution to the communities wherever they go to fly.
