GoPro have launched the latest incarnation of their action camera. The Hero4 Black features 4k video at 30FPS. Despite a lack of 4k-ready TVs in homes this can still be useful for post-production manipulation including cropping and faux panning. The camera, which is compatible with Hero3 accessories, also offers 2.7k video at up to 50FPS and 1080p / 720p at up to 120FPS, making it great for slow motion capture.
The stills capture has also been upgraded with a new resolution of 12 megapixels and a 30FPS burst mode to capture even the fastest action sequences. The company say they have improved the low-light capabilities of the camera and added customisable exposure settings with shutter speeds of up to 30 seconds allowing you to capture the night sky. The camera also includes a time-lapse function with intervals from 0.5 to 60 seconds.
The camera has both bluetooth and WiFi connectivity so you can control it using the optional remote or smartphone app. It has a quick-capture button and a dedicated menu button, and “simplified menus make navigating settings more intuitive than ever”, say GoPro.

If you don’t need the high resolution capture then there is a new Silver model that retains the 120FPS video capture and other features of the Black, but adds a touchscreen on the back.
Both cameras are waterproof to 40m and will be available from 5 Oct 2014
