The fifth edition of the Wanaka Hike and Fly will take place between 21 and 24 February 2025. Applications are now open.
The Wanaka Hike and Fly, which is supported by Cross Country, is the only event of its kind in New Zealand.
“Wanaka is the perfect location for a hike-and-fly race, and I’m looking forward to getting both local and overseas pilots together to learn, socialise and do what they love,” says organiser Kinga Masztalerz.
“Our race is aimed at both paraglider pilots who are racing for the top spot, and those who want to take part in a more relaxed way, learn and spend a fun weekend in the mountains.”
Each waypoint carries a score and the goal of pilots is to visit as many as possible in the fastest time – but choosing their own route. There is also a bonus point for spending a night in a designated spot and two bonus points for bivvying with another athlete.
