Chelan Cross Country Classic hang gliding and paragliding competition

7 January, 2010

The Eastern Washington (USA) site of Chelan is hosting the Cross Country Classic competition for hang glider and paraglider pilots of all skill levels from 3 – 8 July 2010.

Organisers say the emphasis is on having fun, both in the air and on the ground. They say the site offers “World class cross country conditions, and the resort town of Chelan, with its beautiful lakes and welcoming community, lots of opportunity for fun when you’re not out bagging 100 mile flights out in the flats”.

In this event, competitors choose their own tasks and can fly straight line, out-and-return or triangles. The four best results from the six days make up each pilot’s overall score. For paraglider pilots it is a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with the site before the Chelan XC Open (10 – 15 July) or the Chelan PWC (17 – 24 July) competitions.

Registration is only US$ 80 before 30 April, or US$ 100 after, and includes a BBQ and T-shirt. A daily rate of US$ 25 will suit those not wanting to enter the whole event.

All proceeds from the event go towards keeping Chelan Butte open as a site for hang gliding and paragliding.
