Stan Radzikowski is one of 25 pilots competing in this year’s X-Pyr – the X-Alps-style hike-and-fly race across the Spanish Pyrenees.

A tandem pilot and vol bivouac pilot whose first love is flying in Nepal, Stan is typical of the lower-key X-Pyr racers.

No sponsored vehicle and high-gloss for him, oh no:

The support vehicle is one of the biggest expenses of the race. We’re using a 1983 Ford Transit Camper.

These things were rubbish when they rolled off the factory line and I’m not sure it’s gotten any better in the last 30 years.

Hopefully it supports us more than we will need to support it along the way.

We’ve got a range of hammers with which to fix it.

Stan makes a perfect Naked Pilot interview in Cross Country issue 154, July/August 2014.
