Sol and Ozone were jointly awarded the Jean-Marc Mouligné prize for innovation or ‘poetic invention’ at the Coupe Icare this year, for their One and XXLite research paragliders.
Both Sol’s one-line One, and Ozone’s single-surface, 1.35kg XXLite, were flown in front of crowds at the Coupe Icare, and both shown to have remarkable stability considering their extreme designs.
The prize has been awarded at the Coupe Icare each year since 2007 by the ‘Circle of the Flying Man’ (Le Cercle de l’homme volant), a group set up to commemorate the life of Jean-Marc Mouligné.
Jean-Marc was a pilot, sailor, skydiver, BASE jumper, caver, hang glider and paraglider pilot and thrill-seeker, but he tragically died in 2007 in a BASE jumping accident. Jean-Marc was known to many as the human catapult. This is why:
In 2005 he became the first human projectile to “fly more than 100 meters and land alive”.
