Fly7000 Chogori XC harness

Monday 24 August, 2015

Fly 7000 Chogori lightweight pod harness

It’s built for long-range mountain adventures but will do you fine for short flatland XC’s too, writes Marcus King

New harness brand ‘Fly7000’ was born out of the preparations for the mother of all vol biv trips. Back in 2011, Czech pilot Dalibor Carbol joined with Duro Kleja to fly from the Hunza valley up to the second highest mountain in the world, K2. The pair managed to fly over 280km in two days through some of the most remote, mountainous regions on earth, reaching heights of over 7000m… hence the brand’s name.

Four years on, the Chogori XC harness is based on Dalibor’s experiences flying vol-bivouac over many years and is properly optimised for this branch of paragliding.

The harness is available in two versions with the normal version reviewed here weighing in at 4kg for the extra-large size. The light version shaves a further 200g off the weight but at the expense of reduced storage capacity (giving 18 rather than 26 litres).

When the review harness arrived I grabbed a lightweight reserve and set about fitting it. The harness uses a fairly standard cloverleaf-style reserve container with classic twin pins to close it. It’s generous in size and my lightweight reserve was rather lost inside. There’s just one handle that can be fixed on either side…

The full review is in Cross Country 162 (August 2015)
