Design Insight: Towing by Drone

Drone towing is being developed in China. Jeroen Dekkers has been on a year-long journey to learn how to do it

Is towing by drone feasible? The idea is appealing: no need for a long field, no hassle with cables, always into wind, and the ability to release the pilot exactly where they want. Over the last year I have been on a journey to discover how the technology is developing. I visited China, learned to fly drones and I was even towed into the air beneath my own paraglider. This is the story of those last 12 months.
