Paragliding and SIV instructor Malin Lobb looks at the differences between standard and lightweight paragliders, and the pros and cons of going lightweight. 

Lightweight equipment is more popular than ever and it seems the lightweight wings are lasting just as long as their full-fat brothers. Combining a lightweight wing, harness and reserve can lead to a sub-10kg flying bag, which would be just a dream 8-10 years ago. So, are there any down sides of going to the light side?

A little more sensitive

One thing you will notice about lighter wings is they can be a little more nervous in the air, a little more twitchy, and give you more feedback than you might be used to.
