Nova Mentor 4 Light: Lightweight EN-B

Monday 7 September, 2015

Nova Mentor 4 LightNova are presenting the new Mentor 4 Light as a “lightweight performance miracle”. EN-B certified and just 3.25kg in the smallest size, they say it’s versatile and capable, with Mentor 4 performance.

Nova say the Mentor 4 Light is perfect for vol-bivouac or hike-and-fly, and for travellers looking for a fully-fledged wing that won’t use up your aircraft baggage allowance. It has the same performance and flying characteristics as the full-fat Mentor 4, which has certainly racked up some kilometres, as demonstrated by the results of the Mentor Challenge:

Nova Mentor Challenge – top pilots

Constructionwise, the Mentor 4 Light has three line levels, Nova’s ‘smart cells’ (variable cell widths whose size depends on the load they bear) and an Air Scoop (sharknose-esque) air intake.

Weight savings have been made by having just a single seam on the top surface, and a weight-optimised inner structure. The sail is made from double-coated 27g/m2 fabric (32g/m2 on the leading edge), and the wing is covered by Nova’s usual guarantee for 300 flying hours or three years.

Although it’s certified EN-B, Nova say the Mentor 4 Light is not intended for beginners or infrequent flyers – Nova say their dealers are always happy to help pilots decide whether a wing is right for their experience level.

The Mentor 4 Light will be available from the end of September 2015 in the sizes XXS, XS, S and M – there will be no L size – and can be ordered through Nova dealers.
