The World Air Games, scheduled for next year, has been cancelled.
Organisers said the financial crisis was to blame. FAI spokesman Jean-Marc Baden said: “Several potential hosts had expressed their interest … but the emergence of the world financial crisis prevented these potential hosts from committing.”
Discussions continued until May 2010, but the decision was taken to cancel the 2011 even shortly after. Jean-Marc added: “This decision allows us to focus our efforts and resources on the World Air Games 2013”.
FAI members, cities, regions or event organisers interested in hosting the 2013 World Air Games should contact the FAI with expressions of interest by 30 November 2010. Bid documents can be downloaded at www.worldairgames.org
