Nova have released a lightweight pod harness weighing in at just 2kg for the smallest size and using a unique ‘Alumina+’ back protector.
In development for several years the new harness “was developed for pilots who value minimal weight, maximum safety, and outstanding comfort.” Attention has been paid on improving the aerodynamics with an “extremely small projected frontal surface area.”
With the new harness Nova have introduced a new back protector. This comes in two parts: one under the seat that protects the thighs and hips and the second that runs up the back to the thoracic vertebrae. The new material uses a similar honeycomb structure to other protectors but is made with very thin aluminium. The honeycomb panels are then inserted in a foam pad.
The system received a rating of 46.65G in the drop tests. Pilots can opt for an airbag to replace the protector, which increases the weight slightly but decreases the packing size.
The harness features a front mounted reserve with bridles running to the shoulders. There is a detachable instrument panel and “kangaroo pocket” that attaches to the shoulder straps as well as plenty of storage pockets. It comes supplied with super light Edelrid Ease Aerotec karabiners. All the straps and clip-in points are colour coded to make getting into the harness easy, “so that you can get into the air quickly and safely. ”
Nova say “The Artus is aimed at pilots who want to fly a very light, safe and high-performance pod harness. You benefit from the high level of comfort and precise handling on long cross-country flights, ambitious hike & fly competitions and also on vol-biv tours. The Artus is also suitable for everyday use thanks to reinforced materials in the more stressed areas.”
The Artus is available in one colour combination (Blue/Black) in sizes S, M, and L
