Dealing with Tolerances and Big Cylinders: By Joerg Ewald

Monday 5 June, 2017
Cylinder tolerances in paragliding

On the left is the traditional 400m cylinder, where 0.5% tolerance equates to 2m. On the right is a 52km cylinder, where the 0.5% tolerance is 260m – meaning a potential advantage of 520m for some pilots

In Cross Country 181 (July 2017) Joerg Ewald explains how some competition pilots can exploit a technical loophole to give them a small advantage when dealing with big cylinders in paragliding and hang gliding tasks.

That article was an edited version of a much longer article, which also includes specific advice for pilots who are flying in the 2017 Paragliding World Championships in Italy.

The full version of Joerg’s article is available to Download here.
