Andy Aebi wins Paragliding World Championships

Saturday 7 February, 2009

Andy Aebi (CH, Advance) has won the World Paragliding Championships held at Valle de Bravo, Mexico, from 23 January to 7 February. The last task was cancelled, meaning there was a total of 10 valid tasks, the longest of which was 117 km. Stefan Wyss (CH, Niviuk) joined his fellow countryman on the podium along with Alijaz Valic (SL, Gin). The Swiss 1 – 2 finish could be said to be a fitting tribute to team mate Stefan Schmoker.

Elisa Houdry (FR, Niviuk) took the top women’s position with Keiko Hiraki (JP, Axispara) second. The top nation was the Czech Republic, followed by Italy, Slovenia and Great Britain.
